About

Hello! Welcome and thank you for visiting this site.  I am happy to have you here.

For those of you who are new, my name is Betty.  I am married to my husband of 22 years, Jason, and we have seven children, Lexi, Max, Chance, Rowen, Charlie, Mary, and Callie. We live in a small town in rural Nebraska. Three of our sons live with Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD), a rare, fatal, progressive muscle-wasting disease.

After working several years as an educational consultant and in non-profit management, I now stay home with our children, sharing our journey here. I also write a monthly column for Muscular Dystrophy News Today and a monthly article for Catholicmom.com.

We often feel like our family’s health and well-being are on borrowed time because of DMD, and we are inspired to squeeze the most love, joy, and laughter out of each day. But we don’t shy away from sharing the hard things.  A friend recently put it this way.  There is joy, and there is sadness (we live both).  But they can exist together; imagine the joy you experience in brackets.  The joy doesn’t take away from the hard and sad things but exists within them.
